Purrrrrrrrrfect!!

It was relatively quiet at the Sunday Knitting Club – Guilty Knitters, we had settled down with our coffee and projects just chit chatting about mundane things when Sue arrived. Sue always has very interesting knitting projects – the Rose fairisle sweater, the Cocoon scarf for a work colleague. She settled down and lifted out a small knitting bag and from it brought a new project! Just look at these she said and we all looked up even daughter No2 from her Harry Potter cross stitch.

“Wow” “Amazing” I love them” were the comments! They were a pair of mittens – but with Kitties on them and a fishbone and a paw print! – http://susancrowe.co.uk/2013/03/03/kitten-mittens/

We are all cat lovers in the group and as you know we recently went from three to six in our household!!

“Make me some Mum” urged daughter No 2 “I want some” So armed with the pattern I ordered 2 balls of Artesano 100% Alpaca and started knitting –IMG_0443

They were a lovely knit and soon I had one mitten finished!

Then the race was on I had to get the second one finished before Friday! It would be too late and probably too warm to wear them if I finished them when I came back from visiting daughter No1  and Grandson!

So I battled on and despite having to undo a few rows where I had gone wrong in my haste they were finished!!

They fit perfectly and now daughter’s friend wants some!

Finished in time I’ve packed my bag and am ready – this is what I’m going to –

Oh well I’ll take my UGG boots and earmuffs

The Kitty Mittens are PURRRRRRRRRFECT it’s a shame they are staying here!!

The Terrible Two – Or Butter Wouldn’t Melt!

I mentioned before that we had suddenly doubled our cat household with the arrival of Bella and her two kittens Rosie and Albus. They have certainly taken over the sitting room and the dog is well an truly banished unless Albus wants to play, and play they do!!

IMG_0389

They look Angelic don’t they? Butter would’t melt in their mouths would it?

IMG_0433

IMG_0428

Such sweet little things with not an ounce of malice in their bodies or so you would think!

Sleeping in such funny positions!

BUT when they are awake all hell lets loose!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t tell you about the leather dining room chairs but suffice it to say my husband is hardly talking to me because I along with daughter No 2 brought them into the house (the kittens that is not the chairs)

If that’s not bad enough they chewed through my Natural Dye Studio Silk yarn I was using to make Stripe Study Shawl by Veera Välimäki!!

IMG_0444

And tangled what was left of my Lucci Yarn Magic after I had finished Calisto!!

IMG_0445

AND if that was not enough I went to carry on with knitting Ghislaine fingerless mittens with a bit of yarn I had left over from the Ethereal Shawl and the stitches seemed stuck!

Butter Wouldn’t Melt in their tiny little mouths. LOL

Wool Winding

I always used to wind balls of yarn by hand from skeins with them hanging over the back of the chair, it took forever and often got tangled! Whenever I went to Great Balls of Yarn in Lake Worth I was really envious of their skein holder and wool winder but didn’t do anything about it till last year when I purchased the Amish Wool Winder.

IMG_0239

It was bliss, the yarn never tangled and just flowed off the skein as I wound by hand creating balls that rolled all over the floor. so I began to think I needed a wool winder!

The problem was what kind? Hand crank, electric or a Nostepinne?

A Nostepinne? So I did a bit of research and watched a video and thought this is the one for me, sent for one and here it is-

IMG_0378

It looked easy to use so I set up the skein holder and off I went… BUT I just couldn’t do it no matter how hard I tried to make a ball it just didn’t work and it looked so easy on the video. I nearly threw it across the room several times but in the end I just wound by hand as I had always done.

BUT I WASN’T GOING TO BE DEFEATED so I ordered a hand cranked ball winder  to try instead.

The first attempt was a bit loose but I persevered and hooray now I have centre pull balls of yarn that make life so much easier when knitting, especially when Albus and Rosie are around!!!

So if you want to try a Nostepinne just let me know and I’ll send it to you – Good Luck!

Winter Wonderland

It’s snowing and it has been all morning! It snowed on Friday and Saturday so we were stuck inside! But no we braved it this morning, wiped off the car (Faithful “Gertie”, not the Roadster) and crept along the side roads to the main road and headed into Bromley. Roads were empty but we were determined to go out!!

That’s Faithful Gertie behind my friend’s Mazda

We made it to the Glades and here I am at Starbucks – notice the finished Hitchiker scarf in Malabrigio Sock yarn

IMG_0397

We knitted and drank coffee for a couple of hours – bliss on a Sunday morning – and a trio of fellow knitters joined us as well, then off home again, the snow was deeper but roads ok and as there were no hills to negotiate we made it back in one piece – thanks to “Faithful Gertie”, she might be old and not very beautiful but is she reliable!!

This week I haven’t been working on Carrie I succumbed to some of my Yarn stash – Lace weight by Phydeaux Yarns – Fee Aurellia, acid dyed in small lots by the amazing Brenda – and I started the Ethereal Shawl by Lakshmi Juneja. I have done nine repeats of the first pattern and just started the second chart

Finally may I introduce you to Bella (mum centre), Rosie (tabby Kitten) and Albus (known as AL) who have been with us for a week now. Bella is a bit timid but loves to be hand fed turkey, Rosie is shy but I think she will turn out to be a hunter and Al well there’s always one, he’s really scatty, fearless and into everything and the dog has well and truly been put in his place!
