Time Flies

It’s months since my last blog but I’m up for it now. I spent 6 weeks with Daughter No1 and Grandson in Ohio in August and September returning the first week of October! And I crammed a lot into those weeks apart from playing with Thomas trains, Duplo blocks and reading stories.

I drove to Hudson OH so my husband could get a Pea Coat – evidently it’s some sort of special coat worn by the Forces and we had to go to a store 2 hours drive away – don’t worry he said its not far it’s in Ohio – Ohio is bigger than the UK and that’s all I’m saying.

We went to a Livestock market in Danville and procured 5 more chickens for Daughter No 1’s flock – 8 eggs a day now.

We trained the rooster (Neville) to eat cracked corn out of our hands. Why Neville you say? Grandson named them all after characters in Peppa Pig! Some of the  new ones have more original names – Brownie, Road Runner and Mrs Rock.

Wool Winding

I always used to wind balls of yarn by hand from skeins with them hanging over the back of the chair, it took forever and often got tangled! Whenever I went to Great Balls of Yarn in Lake Worth I was really envious of their skein holder and wool winder but didn’t do anything about it till last year when I purchased the Amish Wool Winder.

It was bliss, the yarn never tangled and just flowed off the skein as I wound by hand creating balls that rolled all over the floor. so I began to think I needed a wool winder!

The problem was what kind? Hand crank, electric or a Nostepinne?

A Nostepinne? So I did a bit of research and watched a video and thought this is the one for me, sent for one and here it is-

It looked easy to use so I set up the skein holder and off I went… BUT I just couldn’t do it no matter how hard I tried to make a ball it just didn’t work and it looked so easy on the video. I nearly threw it across the room several times but in the end I just wound by hand as I had always done.

BUT I WASN’T GOING TO BE DEFEATED so I ordered a hand cranked ball winder  to try instead.

The first attempt was a bit loose but I persevered and hooray now I have centre pull balls of yarn that make life so much easier when knitting, especially when Albus and Rosie are around!!!

So if you want to try a Nostepinne just let me know and I’ll send it to you – Good Luck!

Instrument of torture

Different Lines finished! I’m really pleased with the way it drapes and the colours, daughter had it on most of yesterday evening. My friend who modelled in the Pics liked it too.

Can’t wait to find the right yarn to knit for myself.

So tried to knit a row of Queen of Spades (see previous blog) but not feeling it so yarn from stash is calling.

Bought this on my last USA trip along with several other unusual yarns in a little store called Great Balls of Yarn. Been waiting to find the right pattern and it looks like Calisto will be the one so I have got the instrument of torture out!

Well it could be a rack but no it’s a wool winder – Amish style, really easy to use and in no time 3 skeins are balls and we are ready to rock and roll.

So Calisto started 9mm needles so should be a fast knit so watch this space.
